Edo Guber: 10 APC aspirants backing me, we don’t believe we have opposition in Edo State. – Obaseki
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the September 10 election in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has stated that his choice of his deputy, Hon. Philip Shuaibu, will not affect the chances of the party.
Obaseki is from Edo South, while Shuiabu is from Edo North, same as Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Reacting to concerns that he should have picked someone from Edo Central, Obaseki said, “We had far-reaching consultations with party members; we had meetings with leadership of the party and looked at his credentials before we arrived at this decision”.
On how APC will defeat the PDP, the candidate dismissed the party by saying “we don’t believe we have opposition in Edo State.
“We beat them in every election as opposition in Edo. They don’t have much to campaign on; we contested against them in the past and we won, so they don’t stand a chance.
“Even if we forgive them for the money they stole, we will never forget what they did to our bureaucracy. Building Edo back is our priority.
“In 10 years, they barely recruited; they removed top civil servants while the junior ones had nobody to learn from.
“We have built back moral, paid pension to those they retired without paying and so on. Once we finish, Edo will be a model city.”
Obaseki further hailed the Governor Aminu Masari-led committee that conducted the primary.
“The team was professional. As I speak, out of 11 opponents at the primary, only one has not agreed to work with us”, he added.
